Launch of the Swinford Area Action Plan 2013 – 2018.

Swinford area action plan 2013-2018

Mayo Community Futures Plan was officially launched in the Gateway Hotel Swinford on Thursday 20th February 2014. The plan summarises the main facts and figures from the Community Views Survey. In performing the launch FG Councillor Joe Mellett said it was indicative of the interest the people of the Swinford Area had that there was a massive response rate of 75%. He explained that although it was almost 12 months since the plan was first envisaged, many of the priorities were already addressed – eg The clean up and painting of town thanks to the huge efforts of Swinford Tidy Towns, the restoration of derelict buildings thanks to Sean Smyth Director of Services Mayo Co Council, the refurbishment of the Tennis Courts is shortly to commence and the use of the new Cultural Centre as a Town Hall – all of which are action plans.  Cllr Mellett said the people have spoken and he hoped that all of the other objectives would be dealt with.  There was a large attendance on the night including  Mary Wrafter, Francis Brennan, Sheila Coll of the  Mayo Community Forum, Michael Howley Chairman and Martin Peyton Chairman and PRO of the Community Futures Committee. Cathal Kelly chaired the proceedings.

The aims of the plan will now be part of an Action Plan for the town and a meeting of the Committee will be held shortly. Copies of the Plan are available at the Gateway Hotel, Melletts, Gavaghans, Spains and at all the local Churches.
