There was a very successful hazardous farm waste collection recently at Balla mart. This was a pilot scheme between Mayo County Council and 9 other local Authorities to set up “Bring Centres” for hazardous farm waste collection.

In association with Teagasc, the Department of Agriculture and local Authorities the EPA have set up the bring centers in Mayo, Kilkenny, Offaly, Fingal, Cavan, Donegal, Waterford, Cork, Limerick and Wexford.

All the hazardous farm waste collection locations that took place in the pilot scheme are as follows;

Abbeyfeale Mart, Co. Limerick Tuesday, 25 November
Enniscorthy Mart, Co.Wexford Thursday, 27 November
Bring centres will open from 9.30am to 3.30p.m.

This pilot scheme provides farmers with an excellent opportunity to dispose of their hazardous wastes in a manner that protects human health, livestock and the environment. A number of waste types are accepted with some having a cost element.
