Last Sunday the 30th of November, Rosary was held at the Famine Graveyard. The Famine Graveyard is located at the rear of the vocational school on Dublin road. The mass Famine Grave, also known as the Famine Plot is located at the rear of the district hospital opposite.
Upwards of 100 people attended the Rosary on Sunday. Many of whom did not know the graveyard existed. Thanks to Fr Gerry and Fr Dermott Meehan for reciting the Rosary. Thanks also to the local neighbours for the displays of flowers and candles around the graveyard. We would like to thank also people that loaned us chairs for use on the day, they were very much appreciated.
Swinford Tidy Towns undertook the project of restoring the Famine Graveyard in 2013. The restoration project is ongoing and much work has been done to date. It is hoped that there will be mass celebrated on the graveyard site in June 2015. Details will be confirmed later.
