The Grid West Project has recently announced a new proposed Eirgrid underground route for the 400KV power line from Moygownagh in north west Mayo to Flagford in County Roscommon, where it will connect with the existing ESB transmission network. The original overhead pylon route was passing by the outskirts of Swinford to the north.

The new proposed Eirgrid underground route that has been identified, will pass by Swinford further to the north, nearer Charlestown. It will still pass through the village’s of Graffy, Rubble, Carramore Moy, Killasser, Dromada, Ballanacurra, and Cloonfinish, before crossing into the townland’s of Charlestown. Eirgrid is planning to write to people who live near the areas of the proposed Eirgrid underground route in the coming days, and also updating people within the emerging preferred overhead route option.
