The Garden Bird survey by Bird Watch Ireland.

Robin. Bird watch Ireland survey

The Irish Robin

The Garden Bird Survey is organised every year by Bird Watch Ireland. The survey helps bird watch Ireland keep track of the different species of garden birds in Ireland. The survey attracts over one thousand submissions every year! You can view the 2013/2014 survey results here. Garden birds are among our most familiar and easily observed bird species, are easily attracted to feeders and bird tables, and can be watched from the comfort of our own homes.

The way the survey works is very straightforward…
Between December and February each year, we ask members of the public to keep note of the highest number of each bird species visiting their garden every week.  We also ask for information on the size of the garden being surveyed, the kinds of food, if any, being offered to the birds, and so on.  Taking part is fun, easy and an ideal way to get to know your garden birds better; it also makes an ideal school project.

Are you interested in taking part?

If you would like to take part in the survey there are two ways to submit your recordings. Firstly you can complete the survey online. Go to the Bird Watch Ireland website and register then follow the onscreen instructions. Secondly you can download the survey form and print it out to fill it in over the winter months. Instructions are included in the form. Make sure to return the survey by post or fax before the 1st of April 2015.
