There will be a Hazardous farm waste collection at Balla Mart on Wednesday the 12th of November.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in a pilot scheme, have teamed up with ten local Authorities to set up bring centers for hazardous farm waste collection. In association with Teagasc, the department of agriculture and local Authorities the EPA will set up the bring centers in Mayo, Kilkenny, Offaly, Fingal, Cavan, Donegal, Waterford, Cork, Limerick and Wexford. The bring centers will be open for the collection of hazardous farm waste during the months of October and November.
This pilot scheme provides farmers with an excellent opportunity to dispose of their hazardous wastes in a manner that protects human health, livestock and the environment. A number of waste types are accepted with some having a cost element.
Important Information:
- Each waste type must be clearly identifiable, segregated and packaged to avoid leaks.
- Wastes can NOT be dropped off BEFORE or AFTER the designated collection day.
- MIXED wastes will NOT be accepted.
- Farm plastics such as silage wrap, fertiliser and feed bags; netting; and triple rinsed pesticide containers will NOT be accepted.
- All needles and syringes to be delivered to the centres in separate sealed containers.
- Payment by cash, cheque or card.
- Farmers will be issued with a receipt of payment and a certificate of transfer of control of waste.
